Dating Skills and Relationship Coaching for Teens

Dating Tips for Teens

1. Listen to your parents concerns:

Your parent's concerns are about your safety and your rational ability to make the proper choices in partners. Do not view their concern as meddling or control. Understand their interests (eg. their desire to have you treated with respect and kindness by your partner and the desire NOT to become grandparents too early!)

2. Plan for a safe date:

Many teenagers date in groups, during the day or with at least one other friend until they get to know their date better. Other people often can help with the awkward silences.

3. Stay in a public and safe place:

Don't allow yourself to be taking to any unfamiliar placed simply because you don't want to spoil the date by saying "No". Tell your date that you are uncomfortable with the suggestion and if they insist on going to somewhere unfamiliar (or you get a 'funny' feeling about it) inform your date that the date is over.

4. Don't be silly:

Do not display your dating inexperience by being silly (eg. Yelling to other friends to draw attention to you or acting goofy in public).

5. Don't desert your date:

Do not leave your date to socialize with other friends. If you must go to talk to friends, take your date with you and introduce them in a polite manner.

6. Listen to your date:

You want to make sure that you learn more about your date then simply what you see at school. Do make sure that you are listening as well as speaking. Ask your date questions and pay attention to the answers.

7. Don't do all the talking:

Don't keep talking about yourself. You will learn nothing about the other person and you will not discover if your date has any conversation skills.

8. Admit your nervousness:

Do admit that you are nervous. Chances are your date is nervous too. If you are talking too much from nervousness, admit it and ask the other person to take over the conversation.

9. Acknowledge the positive:

Do compliment your date on their appearance, their choice of location, their great conversation skills, etc. Do tell your date if the date is going well. Tell the person that you are having a good time and enjoy their company.

10. Don't neglect your grooming:

Don't forget to make a good first impression. Do remember that people are attracted to cleanliness, good grooming and smell! But don't have an overpowering smell.

11. Don't be rushed into sex:

Do not mistake sex with love. The motives between teenage boys and teenage girls concerning sex are very different. Teenage girls should not let themselves be pressured into having sex! They are often not physically and mentally prepared.

If they are hearing statements such as "I can not date you if we do not have sex" then run! This person does not love you but simply wants sex. The relationship will end, leaving you emotionally hurt.

As a teenager the need for popularity can often outweigh common sense or safety.

At the Relationship Resolution Centre, Inc. we want to prepare as many teenagers as possible to identify the types and motives of people that they will meet out in the dating world. Young people need training in every aspect of their life. Dating skills included!

We believe that teenagers trained in the skills of dating are better prepared to make informed decisions and watch out for the users and abusers of the world. We discuss dating styles and dating stages. We also discuss how dating styles can be healthy or unhealthy depending on your age or self-confidence. We discover the motivation behind their interests, their parent's interests and their date's interest.

We emphasize the importance of self-respect! We emphasize the importance of making your own decision and not to be rushed by someone else. We also assure teenagers that you don't have to worry if all your friends are dating and you are not. We also discuss how to handle rejection and/or break-ups.

We teach teenagers to distinguish between Interests and Issues. This skill is useful for problem solving in all aspects of their life, and in particular, their family life. We teach the method of proper communication so that they will be better prepared to maintain a healthy relationship with their family and their partners.

We ask teenagers "where do you see yourself in 10 years"? Does being pregnant and have a baby support these plans? Do you want to have a child that you may never know? If someone really loves you do you have to have sex to keep them?

Dating Teenager Coaching trains you to:

Understand the benefits of youth and your self-worth.
Understand the differences between girls and boys as it relates to dating.
Discover the motives between girls, boys and your parents.
Discover why it is important to make informed choices.
Learn safe new ways of dating.
Understand the power of waiting and why you should respect your body.
Understand why you are being pressured to date or to have sex.
Become aware of your dating skills.
Become aware of the different dating styles.
Become aware of the different dating stages.

SWEET SIXTEEN (or 15, 16 or 17 years old) BIRTHDAY PARTIES

The Relationship Resolution Centre, Inc. provides a 2 to 3 hour Birthday Party for Teenage Girls to prepare them for the dating and relationship world. The dynamics of these session changes with every group because it is a humorous and very interactive session. Teenagers will leave with many skills to deal with dating and relationships; the ability to understand the motives of teenage boys and the ability to communicate clearly and positively. Teenage girls will understand the importance of their own self worth, respect for their bodies and power of waiting!

Parties available at your home in the evenings or weekends. Groups can range from 5 to 20 teenage girls. Parents are welcome to stay and observe.
Costs for these parties are $45.00 for each teenager + hst (minimum of 5 teenagers).
